The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is looking for a public affairs specialist who understands how to influence decision-makers to support us to continue to have a positive impact for the self-employed and small businesses.

We are in interesting political times, but FSB still manages to achieve change on behalf of small businesses and the self-employed. The public affairs team has had major successes this year from reversing the decision to increase National Insurance Contributions to achieving major successions on business rates.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in a busy, high-performing public affairs team. We work on a huge variety of areas across almost every area of Government policy. This role will be responsible for designing and delivering public affairs strategies that achieve public policy change for small businesses and the self-employed.

The ideal candidate will understand the Government and opposition parties’ priorities, be able to provide tactical insight on how government and parliament operates, and be acutely aware of the opportunities and risks the current political climate presents us with. You should also be a highly skilled communicator, with the ability to build productive working relationships and write persuasively for a variety of audiences.
