Do you want to help drive up standards of patient care across the UK? Are you interested in how ethical frameworks and guidance can support staff to deliver safe, compassionate care for patients and their families?
Do you have experience of working collaboratively with healthcare organisations, health professionals and patient groups to develop, interpret and promote guidance on good practice?
This is an opportunity to join the General Medical Council (GMC), in London, and contribute to the work of the team developing guidance for doctors.
We are the independent regulator for doctors in the UK. We help to protect patients and improve standards of care through our role in medical education and training; keeping the register of qualified doctors; setting the standards of good practice that apply to all doctors across the UK; and taking action to restrict or remove a doctor’s right to practise, where appropriate.
In this key role you’ll support the development of policy on good practice and guidelines for doctors through researching and providing information, analysis and advice on current challenges in healthcare services, the changing legal framework that underpins practice, and changing patient/public expectations. You’ll provide written and telephone advice to doctors, patients and other enquirers as well as briefings and presentations to senior officials in government and other national organisations, often dealing with complex, sensitive and sometimes contentious issues. You’ll also manage the process for drafting new guidance and running public consultation exercises to test the content with our key interest groups.
You’ll have strong research and analysis skills and will be experienced in using complex information to assist the development of new policy. Your well-developed writing, communication and interpersonal skills will give you the confidence to present findings to and engage with internal and external audiences in a way that is persuasive and builds their confidence in our work. In a fast moving policy environment, your creative thinking will help you develop robust solutions when speedy decisions are needed. You will be expected to quickly develop a good understanding of how our good practice guidance impacts on the wider healthcare and regulatory landscape as well as doctors’ day to day practice.
In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
