Public First is a specialist consultancy, helping charities, philanthropists, public sector bodies and global brands improve public policy. Based in London, we have worked in more than thirty international markets. We are part think tank, part strategic consultancy, part polling company, and part communications agency. In other words, we bring together the different disciplines that make policy happen and work.

Our Team

The Public First team has been recruited from the most senior levels of government, the civil service, Parliament, political campaigns, think thanks, opinion research and the media. Our staff have been, and continue to be, active in each of the main political parties.

Working in the Tech, Media & Telecoms Practice, you’ll help to deliver policy, campaigns and impact projects. You will deepen your knowledge of the political landscape surrounding tech policy, help to analyse public opinion insights, and bring new research to life for our clients.

Technology

Technology, media, and telecommunications are major areas of specialism for Public First, and we work with some of the best-known businesses in the sector – including Google, AWS, Meta,  Intel, Uber, Sky, YouTube and others. We are looking for the right person/people to join our growing technology practice.

Our recent projects have included:

  • Exploring hybrid working trends in the UK with Zoom, Vodafone and Indeed;
  • Measuring the economic impact of Google in Canada;
  • Examining  trends in consumer attitudes and behaviours towards news, sport, entertainment and connectivity with Sky;
  • Analysing public opinion about artificial intelligence in the US.

The Role

We are currently looking to recruit a Policy Analyst to work across all of our projects. This is the ideal first or second job for a bright individual who is interested in working in tech, media, and telecommunications policy. You may be someone who has recently graduated with a relevant degree or has experience in a political or numerically literate role.

In this role you would:

  • Keep up to date on emerging tech, media, and telecommunications policies and trends;
  • Conduct rapid desk research on specific policies, programmes and projects;
  • Work with  colleagues to deliver quantitative and qualitative public opinion research;
  • Convey thoughtful analysis of your findings in clear, compelling prose;
  • Provide administrative support to ongoing projects;
  • Liaise with clients in a professional and organised manner;
  • Assist with new business generation.

Our ideal candidate is comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides etc) and  likes working collaboratively in a team. While you don’t need to have a science/technical degree or a qualification related to technology or policy, our team really values problem-solving, political nous and initiative.

Working arrangements and salary

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in employment, and we would particularly like to encourage applications from women, disabled, LGBTQ+ and Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority (BAME) candidates.

We work in a mix of in the office and at home, with our main office based in Westminster. Many of us, including the founders, have young children, and we work hard to be family friendly.

Policy Analyst salaries start from £27,000 – £30,000.
