Work with Generation Rent as our new Head of Campaigns to help change lives. We’re looking for a persuasive individual to help us influence change and give renters a voice.
You will work to achieve change across the UK, joining a fast-paced team at a vital time for legislation and politics around renting. You’ll have experience in influencing policies and laws, as well as the ability to create and deliver clear and persuasive messages for a wide variety of political audiences.
Above all, you should be passionate about improving the lives of renters through campaigning and communications.
Contract length: 18-month fixed term, with possibility of permanent (fundraising permitting).
Working Pattern / Hours per week: Full time 35 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday 9-5pm with flexibility and occasional weekend working.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Public Affairs
Represent Generation Rent at meetings with parliamentarians, officials, and at other events, and in the media when necessary, in line with agreed messaging and priorities, including occasional out-of-hours commitments.
Liaise with external stakeholders on behalf of Generation Rent to improve campaign effectiveness.
Maintain an extensive and cross-party network of influential political contacts across the UK’s nations and regions in support of Generation Rent’s aims.
Monitor and engage with legislative developments within Westminster, and ensure colleagues are kept abreast of the latest political developments.
Plan and deliver Generation Rent’s public affairs and campaigns strategy.
Coordinate and maximise effectiveness of Generation Rent’s Westminster APPG.
Lead the development and publication of campaign-related policy materials, including reports, written briefings for parliamentarians, and consultation responses.
Work closely with research and participation colleagues to build our evidence base to support Generation Rent’s priorities and objectives.
Represent Generation Rent at the Renters’ Reform Coalition, and in other collaborative forums as required.
Communications
Lead Generation Rent’s communications efforts, including press relations, social media channels, website and branding.
Monitor the relevant media landscape, seeking proactive as well as reactive opportunities to amplify the voices of renters and Generation Rent.
Plan and tailor messages for target audiences, achieving outcomes including but not limited to media coverage, campaign successes, fundraising growth, increased supporters and greater credibility and reach for the organisation.
Work with Generation Rent supporters to put renters’ stories and voices at the heart of the political and media conversation about private renting.
Management
Line manage staff, and oversee their development, in delivery of project or organisational aims.
Maintain effective grant relationships, meeting reporting deadlines and contributing to securing new grants or extensions that further the mission of Generation Rent.
Support the Chief Executive in human resources and health and safety matters.
General
Take part in regular supervision, annual appraisal and development opportunities.
Uphold the organisation’s values and behaviours.
Maintain confidentiality at all times and make sure proper observance of and adherence to the organisation’s policies and procedures.
Be able to work some unsocial hours as required in line with the demands of the role.
Any other duties as reasonably required by Generation Rent.
