The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Shearwater is looking for an ambitious public affairs specialist to join our growing London team. If you’re passionate about politics and want to take your career to the next level, then this role could be for you.

Shearwater is a fast-growing strategic advisory firm. Founded in 2020, we have grown quickly to 30 people across our offices in London and Brussels. This year we moved to new offices in the heart of Soho and are now looking for a consultant to join us on the journey.

Our work spans a wide range of clients in highly-regulated and politically high-profile sectors. The policy areas we cover include artificial intelligence, sustainability, space, competition, trade and education.

We are proud of our strong team culture and the close integration between our London and Brussels offices, supported by numerous joint client briefs that give us a truly global outlook.

About the role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of policy issues and hone your skills as a consultant. You will also be empowered to build your professional network. Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking research on the political and media environments and drafting policy papers, biographies and briefing notes;
  • Staying on top of political developments including monitoring debates in Parliament and delivering advice to clients on how to engage stakeholders;
  • Supporting delivery of client and company events, including Parliamentary receptions and party conferences;
  • Supporting team operations, including arranging meetings, updating stakeholder maps, drafting slides for meetings and liaising with clients;
  • Supporting the growth of the business by contributing creative ideas to new business pitches and building your professional network.

What we’re looking for

  • A keen interest in politics and global affairs;
  • A good working knowledge of the UK Parliament and Government;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills as well as a keen eye for detail;
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • A proactive attitude with a desire to help grow the business;
  • A desire to build a professional network of business, political and other stakeholders.
