We are looking for a full-time Communications Officer, with a strong understanding and passion for science communications to join our small team at Understanding Animal Research (UAR).
Who we are
UAR is the UK’s only dedicated animal research advocacy organisation. We are funded by more than 150 life science organisations, including the UK’s top ten universities for life science, research institutions, research funders and charities, pharmaceutical companies, learned societies, and government agencies. Our primary aim is to ensure that there is factual, evidence-based information available to the public on how and why animals are used in scientific research. We open the doors to animal laboratories by sharing stories from researchers and animal care staff, highlighting new advancements in medical research and lab animal welfare, and explaining the regulations and laws surrounding animal research.
Who we are looking for
The Communications Officer is an integral member of the team and is responsible for driving the reach and influence of UAR’s work to a range of audiences (scientific, lay public, media, and policy makers), through stakeholder engagement and delivery of engaging social media content.
The Communications Officer will take responsibility for UAR’s social media channels, developing and executing a social media strategy, including current and future campaigns, with oversight from the Digital Communications Manager. The ideal candidate will be highly creative, have strong communication skills, and possess the drive and enthusiasm to create engaging and educational content around the nuanced subject of animal research.
In this role you will work closely with UAR’s Video Producer to plan and create social media content.
You will get the opportunity to visit UAR members across the UK for content creation purposes and work on collaborative projects with universities, research institutes, contract research organisations, funders, and government agencies.
The Communications Officer will also be involved with stakeholder engagement, including being responsible for the day-to-day running of the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research with supervision from the Head of Engagement and Communications. They will develop strong working relationships with key individuals at stakeholder organisations and offer support on behalf of UAR.
The successful applicant will report to the Digital Communications Manager, as well as working closely with the Head of Engagement and Communications and Video Producer. This role has no line management responsibilities.
