Join the Network

We’re looking for a Communications Adviser to work on the front line of the ABI media team and to contribute to the wider comms function, generating proactive media coverage, managing reactive enquiries and representing our work to members and stakeholders.

This is a great opportunity to join a fast-paced, highly respected press office. We deal with the full breadth of national, regional and trade media, across print, online and broadcast. And we handle a wide range of issues that really matter both to consumers and the insurance and long-term savings industry.

We’re open to flexible, part time and/or job share working – please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.

Our team is made up of people who are new to insurance, those who are highly experienced, and everyone in-between, so we welcome people from all industry backgrounds.

What’s the job?

  • Dealing with reactive media enquiries, drafting responses with policy colleagues and ensuring us and our industry are portrayed as positively as possible in the media and to stakeholders;
  • Proactively generating media opportunities for us and maintaining good relationships with national, trade and broadcast media;
  • Writing and tailoring articles, comment, press releases, social media content, speeches and briefings for a wide range of audiences;
  • Helping colleagues prepare for broadcast opportunities and act as a respected spokesperson yourself on occasions;
  • Devising and implementing digital content ideas for our website and across all our social media platforms;
  • Monitoring relevant media coverage and analysing the success of our own activity.

Please note you will participate in the out-of-hours rota (shared among the team), dealing with urgent media enquiries during evenings and weekends when necessary.

What skills are we looking for?

  • Press office knowledge – you’ve worked in public relations, journalism or media relations, including dealing with national media;
  • Amazing comms skills – you can write engaging, concise content tailored to a variety of audiences and get traction with the media with the content you produce;
  • Relationship management – as well as knowing how to deal with press enquiries, you’re a professional, helpful colleague and can work effectively with a range of external stakeholders;
  • Digitally-savvy – you know how to use digital and social media in a professional context;
  • Organisation – you can manage a fast-paced, busy and reactive workload and juggle multiple priorities with ease.

We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t have all the skills above right now.
