The 2024 General Election is complete, and the United Kingdom has a new government. The full results are as follows:

  • Labour Party - 412
  • Conservative Party - 121
  • Liberal Democrats - 71
  • Scottish National Party - 9
  • Green Party - 4
  • Reform UK - 4
  • Others – 27

Scotland Results

  • Labour Party – 37
  • Conservative Party – 5
  • Liberal Democrats – 5
  • Scottish National Party – 9

The Scottish results are a dream for Labour, putting them back to their 2010 level. The central belt is currently awash with red seats, including every Glasgow seat and four out of the five Edinburgh seats.

Huge swings have been seen for Labour across Scotland, suggesting the party is in a good spot for the 2026 Scottish Parliament Election.

What does this mean for Scotland?

Scottish voters relegated the SNP to second place for the first time since 2010, with Labour the big winner of the night.

Labour has won 37 seats in Scotland, all at a cost to the SNP. An increase of 17% in the Labour vote and the loss of 15% of the vote for the SNP has led Starmer to Number 10 and caused Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar and Scottish Labour to start believing they can take Bute House as well in 2026.

All of Glasgow’s seats and four of Edinburgh’s five went Labour, as well as major central belt locations such as Falkirk, Livingston and Stirling, showing the resurrection of Labour.

The Scottish Parliament elections of 2026 have been on the minds of all political parties for some while now, and this election has almost been a practice run for that.

Orbit will now look forward to seeing what the parties promise for Scotland specifically and watching as Scotland becomes the centre of the political world for the next two years.
