The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) has announced it is bolstering its public affairs function with the appointment of James Calder as its newly created Head of Public Affairs and Communications.
Calder will join SIBA in September and will initially focus on ‘crafting’ new ways to communicate independent beer industry priorities to Government. James brings both in-house and consultancy experience, joining from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) where he has worked with accountancy firms on taxation, exports and financial services policy issues. Prior to this, he held consultancy roles in Cavendish Communications and Citigate Dewe Rogerson working for financial services, transport and third sector clients.
On Calder's appointment SIBA’s Managing Director Mike Benner said: “James’ arrival will further deepen our ability to represent the independent brewing industry and SIBA’s Four Pillars of market access, taxation, our Assured Independent British Craft Brewer campaign and product excellence at the highest levels of Government. We'll also be better able to support breweries across the UK to form relationships with their local MPs.
“James is a proven campaigner on tax issues and is a legislative and parliamentary expert. He’s going to bring valuable new insight to SIBA’s growing team.”
Calder commented: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining the independent brewing industry. With so many threats and opportunities out there for the industry, I'm keen to help build SIBA's voice in Government to ensure a growing and sustainable sector."
