London LGBT+ Community Pride, the volunteer organisation that has delivered Pride in London since 2013, has appointed David Geary to head up the organisation’s public affairs function as Senior Manager Public Affairs.

Geary is an experienced government relations professional and has worked in the US, Brussels, Ireland and the UK. He is currently working as Policy Advisor at the Recruitment & Employment Confederation in London. Geary’s first political role was with former Irish Member of Parliament and current President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. In addition, he has worked with European Movement UK and Amnesty International in California.

In 2014, Pride in London delivered the biggest Pride Parade with 30,000 participating in the heart of the capital. Throughout June the award-winning #FreedomTo social media and advertising campaign took the Pride message to millions of people across London and far beyond.

Stephen Ward, Deputy Chair and Director of Communications, said: “We are delighted to welcome David on board and look forward to the significant contribution he will make at Pride in London. David previously coordinated our engagement on European affairs with the successful Pride in Europe event last year, which focused on the progress of LGBT+ rights across the member states of the EU. We are confident David will bring the same focus and determination to this role."

David Geary commented: “I am thrilled to take on this exciting role, building on our political engagement over the past number of years to promote the importance of Pride today. We are building up a highly effective public affairs team and keen to tap into the diverse skills and experiences in London to raise the profile of our work this year.”
