The winners of the Political Cartoon of the Year Awards were announced by George Osborne, during a ceremony hosted by Ellwood Atfield in Westminster, on Thursday 23rd November.
The awards celebrate the UK’s national newspaper cartoonists, and are attended by the National Press, Members of Parliament, leaders from the communications and PR industry and cartoonists alike. In total 30 cartoons were shortlisted this year.
Guest of honour George Osborne was at the sharp end of many a cartoonist’s pen over the years, and is now an advocate for political cartooning. In his new role as editor of The Evening Standard he has re-introduced the political cartoon to its pages with the appointment of Christian Adams.
The 2017 Political Cartoonist of the Year was Morten Morland from The Times.
Runner-up was Dave Brown from The Independent.

The Political Cartoon of the Year Awards, held at St John’s Smith Square this year, has been running since 2000, and Ellwood Atfield has hosted the awards since 2010. The awards are supported by Tim Benson, founder of the Political Cartoon Gallery. Located in Putney, it offers the widest selection of original cartoons for sale in the United Kingdom and the world.
