Westminster and Edinburgh-based communications agency, PLMR, has appointed the former Chair of the Education Select Committee and ex-Conservative MP for Stroud, Neil Carmichael, as a Senior Adviser, who will be working one day a week to provide senior counsel to clients and to contribute to business growth.
Neil Carmichael served seven years in the House of Commons from 2010-2017. During his time in Parliament Carmichael was a member of the Environmental Audit Committee (2010-2015) and the Education Select Committee (2010-2017), the latter of which he chaired from 2015 onwards.
Neil started his career as a livestock farmer in Northumberland, before he went on to work as a Lecturer in Modern British Political History, Rural Economic Development, and EU Policies and Instructions and then forged a career in public affairs at JBP and healthcare and public sector specialist law firm, Bevan Britten.
Speaking about the appointment Neil Carmichael said “I am delighted to be joining PLMR. The combination of being part of a great team and having the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients is going to be stimulating and interesting. With so many areas of public policy being contested, reformed and scrutinised, there will be plenty to do for businesses and professions with ambitions to be modern, responsive and engaged.”
Commenting on the role, PLMR’s MD, Elin de Zoete, added “Neil brings a wealth of relevant experience to PLMR, from his in-depth knowledge of education, agriculture and Europe, to his detailed understanding of parliamentary process and policy development. We are honoured to be welcoming Neil to PLMR and look forward to the value he will bring for clients, new business prospects and the wider team.”
