The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

There is so much health traffic on Twitter that it is easy to miss the good stuff. Here is our summary of all things on health that have caught our attention over the past 7 days.

  • A new study finds that NHS productivity is on the rise. @HSJEditor is right to argue this strengthens the case for greater investment in the NHS.
  • Useful summary by @NHSConfed_EU on planned changes to European procurement rules. Taking into account ‘lifecycle costs’ of goods and services is to be encouraged.
  • Want to talk to a CCG? @NHSEngland has created a useful list of CCGs on Twitter.
  • Is obesity a ticking timebomb? And how big will the explosion be? Interesting @TimHarford podcast.
  • Nine thought-provoking ways to reduce inequality from the British Academy. Includes a chapter on reducing health-related worklessness.
  • Important campaign launched to encourage people to seek help earlier for health problems. Has the potential to turn on its head the traditional notion of a ‘gatekeeper’ being someone who keeps the gate shut.

And in America:

  • Clinical integration is leading to the development of ‘value-based care’. This was a key trend identified at the JP Morgan Healthcare conference.
  • The Surgeon General has found that cigarettes are becoming more dangerous and has linked smoking to colorectal cancer, diabetes and arthritis.
