The British Bankers Association (BBA) has announced two senior hires to its communications team.
Emily Walch joins the trade association for the UK banking sector as Executive Director for External Relations. She will be responsible for the BBA’s communications programme, website and publications as well as UK and EU government affairs strategy.
Walch previously served as senior special advisor to Vince Cable, former Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills. Prior to that, she worked for four years as Senior Consultant at Blue Rubicon and was employed in various other roles for the Liberal Democrats between 2003 and 2007.
Her appointment follows Sanjay Odedra’s recent hire as Senior Press Officer. He joins the communications team from the House of Commons where we worked as Senior Media and Communications Officer for the Treasury Select Committee. Odedra has a wide range of PR and journalism experience. After spells at the Financial Times and the website Digital Spy, he worked at the City of London Corporation for five years.
Walch commented: “I am delighted to be joining the BBA at such an interesting time for the industry. The banking sector has gone through some fundamental reforms in the last few years and the fast pace of innovation promises much more for customers.
“I’m really looking forward to working with our excellent team here to help the public and policymakers understand how things have changed as well as how we will take on the challenges of the future.”
Odedra said: "This is an exciting time for the industry. Banking is Britain’s leading export industry and employs nearly half a million people here. Helping to explain the value of this industry to our country will be a great challenge.”
