Viscount Camrose, former AI Minister, has joined UK EdTech startup, Lumi Network, as a Senior Counsel and Board Member.

Camrose served as the UK Government’s first ever AI Minister in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology from 2023 until the most recent election. During this time he was responsible for the UK's AI strategy, the Government’s frontier AI taskforce and the inaugural AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park, which resulted in the landmark and world-first agreement on AI safety, the Bletchley Declaration, between 28 leading AI nations.

As Senior Counsel, Camrose will help to steer the company’s strategic direction and play a hands on role with the product team to ensure Lumi’s technology meet the needs of educators, students and business alike.

Recently recognised as one of the most innovative companies in EdTech globally by HundrED, Lumi sits at the cutting edge of the EdTech sector. It is transforming the way university students, graduates and existing employees are skilled in future digital skills thanks to its interactive platform which facilitates human-AI collaboration.

In addition to upskilling, Lumi aims to streamline the existing outdated recruitment processes. Lumi's AI-powered skills engine makes inferences about participants across a range of skills to produce a personalised Digital Skills Passport, which business can use to identify talent that fits them best or upskill existing employees.

Lumi was co-founded by serial entrepreneur Prashant Raizada, who has been involved in the global education sector for the last 15 years as a founder, investor and board adviser. His 25-year career has included being part of the founding team of Infosys BPM, a JV between Citigroup VC and Infosys (India’s best known technology company) which grew into a $250m revenue company and was acquired for $2bn exit, within five years. He has also worked at McKinsey & HSBC Investment Bank.

Camrose joins an impressive senior team that includes the likes of Lord Bellingham, Chair of Lumi, and former Foreign Office Minister, and Dr Chris Shen, Co-Founder of Lumi, and Stanford University Professor.

Beyond AI, Camrose’s previous Government responsibilities also included Intellectual Property and Cyber and he led the Sunak Government’s landmark Bills through the House of Lords including the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill and the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill.
Prior to his ministerial work, Camrose worked in tech both running his own consultancy and working in-house for big corporations including Pfizer, BP and Shell.

On his new role, Camrose commented: “As it currently stands, our workforce and graduates are ill equipped to meet the challenges of the digital age. I am delighted to be joining Prashant and the rest of the Lumi team to play our part in changing this – helping young people and the wider workforce adapt and thrive with a new set of skills for the new tech landscape."

Prashant Raizada, Founder and CEO, of Lumi added: “As the UK’s first AI Minister, nobody is better placed than Jonathan in understanding the challenge posed to Government and business by the current digital skills gap. According to the recent AI Action Plan, the UK must train tens of thousands of additional AI professionals in the next 5 years. With the addition of Jonathan to the team, Lumi stands ready to assist in this endeavour and make the workforce fit for the future.”
