The APPC Young Consultants’ Committee have elected Cameron Penny and Laura Sainsbury to the positions of Chair and Vice-Chair respectively. Cameron, an Account Manager at Cicero Group, and Sainsbury, a Senior Account Manager at Bellenden, were selected for the Committee at the APPC AGM earlier this month along with twelve other practitioners up to the age of 30.
Penny commented on his election: “It’s a fantastic privilege to have been elected to Chair the Young Consultants’ Committee. Kat Derschewsky, my predecessor, led a fantastic programme last year and I’m looking forward to working with the Vice Chair, Laura Sainsbury to continue this great work.
“During the next year we’ll be deepening the YCC’s connections with all APPC member firms and continuing to refine how we train new entrants and help existing young consultants develop professionally. YCC members also want more social opportunities and delivering those is high on the agenda alongside our policy-orientated seminars.
“Making sure that young consultants have a voice as the Government moves to implement the statutory register for lobbyists and ensuring that we continue to uphold high standards for ethical conduct are also a key part of the YCC’s plan.
“I want to judge the success of the next 12 months on whether our members feel they’ve got more of a say about how our industry is regulated and what the YCC does for them. To take the YCC to the next level we need to build a self-sustaining dialogue between those of us leading its work and the consultants we represent. I look forward to working with colleagues on the YCC and the APPC’s Management Committee to realise that objective.”
Sainsbury, a Senior Account Manager at Bellenden, also commended the work of outgoing Chair Kat Derschewsky: “Echoing Cameron’s words, I’m delighted to be elected Vice-Chair and look forward to building on the work conducted under Kat’s leadership over the last twelve months.
“We’re anticipating a busy year of activity ahead, kicking off with next Wednesday’s panel event on the implications of the European elections, at which we hope to see many fellow APPC and CIPR members.”
“The implications of the EU election” will be held at Ellwood Atfield at 18.00 on Wednesday 4th June. The event is being organised by the APPC Young Consultants’ Committee and CIPR Public Affairs and is open to members only.
