The Parliamentary Research Service (PRS) is a pooled research facility for Labour MPs. IPSA rules allow us to work “…supporting MPs in taking part in parliamentary debates, or in responding to constituents.”
The Research Support Intern (Scotland and Wales) requires these key skills:
- Excellent written communication
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Good oral communication and networking skills
- Ability to interact comfortably with senior politicians
- Numeracy and an understanding of data and statistics
- Knowledge of Parliament and UK politics
- The ability work to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
Key responsibilities:
- Process the work requests of Scottish and Welsh MPs through our workflow system
- Office admin
- Draft template responses to assist MPs in responding to constituents
- Respond to Member queries and gather relevant information to assist with resolving Member requests
Requirement
- Experience and knowledge of politics in Scotland and/or Wales
- Existing documented right to work in the UK
- Experience in policy, parliamentary or a relevant business environment is desirable, but we are also looking for potential and aptitude
- Fluent English
You should bear in mind that PRS’s subscribers are Labour MPs and you must be comfortable supporting them in their parliamentary duties.
The role is a six month contract. The first four months is a probationary period in which you will undertake an assessment process for which we provide the necessary training and support throughout. After the probationary period you may be offered a contract extension or permanent contract subject to reaching required performance levels. There are opportunities to progress to higher grades at PRS if good or outstanding performance levels are reached.
