Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

This Public Affairs and Events Intern role supports the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) in public affairs and advocacy efforts, focusing on policy, event coordination, and stakeholder engagement. Key responsibilities include:

Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Monitor stakeholder lists, input data into planning tools, and update constituency information;
  • Support sector representation at external meetings, such as All-Party Parliamentary Groups and BBPA events;
  • Identify opportunities for parliamentary engagement and maintain a forward planner for influencing activities;
  • Build and expand political networks to gather intelligence on issues affecting the sector.

Policy, Research, and Communications

  • Develop a solid understanding of BBPA materials, including position papers, guidance, and publications;
  • Conduct research, gather evidence, and assist with consultation responses;
  • Prepare reports, meeting documents, and briefings to support public affairs activities;
  • Collaborate with members to collect case studies highlighting the sector’s environmental leadership and contributions to hospitality and tourism;
  • Assist in creating social media assets and communications from a public affairs perspective.

Event Coordination and Administrative Support

  • Support event planning, logistics, and administrative tasks for expert member groups and committees;
  • Attend meetings, take minutes, and circulate notes as needed;
  • Handle external inquiries and provide administrative assistance to team members, including the policy desk;
  • Undertake additional duties to ensure the efficient operation of the Association.

Development and Opportunities

  • Develop expertise in public affairs and gain insights into parliamentary processes;
  • Grow a professional network within the political and hospitality sectors;
  • Contribute to showcasing the sector’s positive impact on Britain’s economy and environment.
