Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Our scheme is designed for recent graduates, college leavers or those looking to increase their knowledge of the sector. You will not necessarily need any previous experience to apply, however, demonstrable political interest and awareness of current affairs is desirable. You will experience working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team, with opportunities to work on a variety of client accounts across a range of sectors, helping to develop your understanding of public affairs.

Key skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • High standard of written work;
  • Strong planning, time management and prioritisation skills;
  • Demonstrable interest in British politics and current affairs;
  • Experience of working successfully in a team environment;
  • Previous experience of working in a communications agency is desirable but not expected.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Regular political monitoring to ensure both the team, and clients are kept up to date of key developments;
  • Stakeholder research and auditing, to enable clients to be thoroughly briefed and accurately advised by client teams ahead of meetings;
  • A familiarity with social media and an ability to utilise it effectively to communicate clients’ messages;
  • Producing briefings and conducting entry-level stakeholder engagement;
  • Other administrative duties as required.

37.5 hours per week. Six month contract.

Our Westminster intern will be the first port of call for the initial stages of desk-based research projects, media monitoring and database-building. They will also be exposed to more client-facing activities, depending on performance and capacity.
