The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Localis is a leading, independent think tank focusing on devising place-based public policy at the level of national and local government. We are currently seeking a communications and events manager to support the delivery of our events and research policy programme. This role would be ideal for a graduate starter looking for wider experience in the world of policy and public affairs.

Job specification

  • 35hrs/week (five-day working week, with flexibility over days);
  • Can work from home or our office, but will be required in office for initial training and some staff meetings;
  • Will be required to travel for party conferences and other events taking place outside London.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Events planning: research, recommend, organise and co-ordinate events in line with strategic priorities, including budgeting, resource and monitoring coverage;
  • Project manage all event logistics, including attending both in person events and all online events;
  • For in person events, logistics would include speaker liaison, venue setup, signage, AV and attendee registration;
  • For online events, this would include set up of webinar platform, facilitating audience registration/sign in and technical support during the event;
  • Manage attendance of Localis research evidence sessions in liaison with the research team;
  • Ensure all events are delivered to high standard, on budget and secure excellent attendance;
  • Maintain calendar(s) of internal and external events.

Communications

  • Help create compelling event concepts with supporting content that will engage target audiences;
  • Co-ordinate and create engaging website and social media content with an analytic eye to monitor the success of the work;
  • Assist with press releases, media liaison and stakeholder engagement.

Essential qualities

  • Self-motivated with a passion for public affairs and policy;
  • Believer in local democracy and the efficacy of well-managed local government;
  • Strong writing and communications skills;
  • Some knowledge of local government structure in the UK;
  • Comfortable working flexibly in a small team environment.

Desired qualities

  • Previous experience in a communications or event role;
  • Project management experience.

Length of Contract: Initial six months.
