Public First are recruiting two interns for an eight-week period this summer (start date negotiable), one as a policy intern and one as a data intern. Under the direction of members of the Education and Campaigning teams, both interns will provide support for Public First’s wide-ranging work in policy, strategy, research and opinion consultancy, working with different teams across the course of the internship to help deliver outputs such as client reports, economic impact assessment and data analysis.
Job summary
Both interns will be expected to engage with all of the following:
- Design and create a ‘policy tracker’ of major parties’ policy commitments in the run-up to a potential General Election;
- Conduct, synthesise and comment upon research for a variety of practices within the firm;
- Monitor developments in politics and media relating to different projects;
- Assist with the delivery of client-facing products, such as proof-reading reports, creating slide decks and updating web pages;
- Support with the creation and management of client relations databases, such as lists of political and corporate contacts;
- Provide logistical support for events, trips and operations.
As well as this, interns would have the following specific responsibilities:
- Policy intern: pick and research a policy project falling within one of Public First’s practices for publication on our website;
- Data intern: conduct data analysis for a current Public First practice for publication on our website.
Person specifications
- Currently undertaking undergraduate or masters study;
- Experience of long-form research projects (eg dissertations or reports);
- Strong understanding of the UK’s political system and current affairs;
- Capable of getting to our office in central London at least twice a week (Monday and Thursday);
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google software suites.
- Policy intern: proven interest in a Public First practice area (Education, Energy and Environment, Social Policy, Technology);
- Data intern: proven experience with quantitative work (Excel essential, R, Stata or Python desirable).
Salary: London Living Wage.
Hours: 37.5hrs per week.
Start date: negotiable (preferably early- to mid-July).
