Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.
What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.
This is a great career move for an experienced communications professional who brings a good knowledge of the Scottish political landscape. Leading Ofgem’s external relations in Scotland, you will design and deliver an effective public affairs strategy: communicating, promoting and when required, defending Ofgem’s work to key political and wider energy stakeholders. You’ll communicate high profile, sometimes complex, policy issues in a clear, concise and engaging way and you’ll be a source of expert advice to colleagues on parliamentary and political affairs in Scotland. You’ll co-ordinate meetings and events with key stakeholders across Scotland and represent Ofgem in a range of settings. Throughout, you’ll be alert to the wider media and political environment and help manage strategic issues, which may impact on Ofgem’s reputation.
We expect that you will already have a track record of accomplishment in a challenging external facing communications / public affairs role and have some experience of managing events. You should be able to absorb complex information quickly and communicate it effectively to different audiences, identifying specific areas of interest and tailoring content accordingly. It’s important that you have a keen eye for detail and excellent proof reading skills, and you should be comfortable managing and prioritising varied and complex workloads to tight deadlines.
