Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

We are looking for an ambitious, dynamic, creative and innovative individual to lead the development and implementation of the University’s communication and public affairs strategy. You will raise the profile of the University in the media and with a wide range of stakeholders to enable it to achieve its objectives at local, national and international level.

As one of the UK’s top five research intensive universities and only wholly postgraduate university focused on science, technology, engineering and management, we want to raise our profile with key stakeholders both nationally and internationally. You will lead the effective provision of media and PR support services to the University, the academic Schools and the professional services to achieve a positive working relationship with in-house clients. You will ensure good communications with key internal and external audiences with the objective of building support for the University.

This is an important new management role within the recently created cross – university Marketing, Communications and Development Directorate (MCD) which has been established to help to lead and serve ‘one university’ and to provide an excellent service to all our stakeholders. MCD acts as a centre of excellence and ensures that audience needs are served ‘end to end’, supporting colleagues within the University to deliver a creative, efficient and effective service that places customers at the heart of the operation.

You will be involved in day to day issues and priority projects as well as providing strategic communications advice on areas including: media and public affairs and internal communications. Leading a small team, you will create, implement and measure the success of the strategy to enhance the University’ reputation with key audiences. You will work with the wider University to develop compelling stories and messaging which achieve cut through on specialist, national and international media including digital, social and broadcast media channels. You will also develop strategic relationships with key journalists and broadcasters. You will provide communications support to the Vice-Chancellor and the Senior Executive as well as communications and PR support to the Schools and you will work closely with colleagues in the marketing recruitment and business-to-business marketing teams in order to support them in meeting university goals.

Educated to degree level or equivalent ideally with a relevant post graduate qualification, you will have a proven track record of operating within fast moving complex environments. You will have successfully delivered innovative and engaging communications to both internal and external stakeholders through traditional and digital channels. You will also have a track record of delivery in the public affairs area from developing to implementing strategy.
